Torrevieja, situated next to the sea, in the south of the Region of Valencia, is encircled by two large natural salt water lakes which make up the well-known Salinas de Torrevieja, considered the most productive in Europe.

At 29 miles (47km) from Alicante, capital of the province, and 22 miles (35km) from the international airports at El Altet (Alicante) and San Javier (Murcia), it has distinguished itself in the last few years as a first-class tourist centre in the Mediterranean.

Along with its very dry climate, stable throughout the year, 360 days of sunshine, and an average of 18ºC (64˚F), are such welcoming and attractive features as its magnificent beaches of fine sand, main squares, promenades, parks, gardens, nature reserves, and major historical and artistic monuments (first century modernist casino (social club) with its famous Moorish-style hall, – the Eras de la Sal monument), both in the city and the surrounding area.

The coastline of Torrevieja, with its promenade, clean beaches, modern yacht club and a number of services and tourist facilities located among the tourist destinations preferred by visitors to Torrevieja.

All of these are surrounded by numerous services dedicated to tourism, in a hospitable society that is relaxed and open to all cultures of the world, thanks to its outstanding marine traditions of shipping, fishing and sports.

Not surprisingly, Torrevieja hosted the largest fleet of sailing ships in the Mediterranean, preserving the last examples until the first decade of this century.
The microclimate of Torrevieja, is arguably the most important natural factor in its whole range of possibilities, which together with the beneficial properties of its salt lakes, are the backbone of development in the city.
