ORC “A” winner Maverta / Defcon Seguridad. The regatta was used by the organisation to prepare for the 8th edition of the Marina Internacional Trophy, an ORC Spanish Cup to be held from the 13 to 16 of this coming July. Winds prevailing from the south and sun have accompanied the fleet on a good day for sailing.
Torrevieja, 24 June 2017. On Saturday 24, the 8th Navicularia Trophy Regatta was held by Club Náutico Marina Internacional with the authorisation of the Valencia sailing association (Federación de Vela) and sponsored by the company Navicularia (International Yacht Brokers).
The regatta began at 12.40 pm with the Promotion-class vessels, followed by the races of the ORC A and ORC B vessels, totalling 20 vessels altogether.
The wind made its presence felt right from the very beginning, with its strength ranging from 8 to 10 knots and a southerly direction, and increasing throughout the day to 18 knots, for a course running 19 miles along the coast from Torrevieja Bay to the port of San Pedro del Pinatar. The regatta was divided into two sections, both of which were scorable, with the first section running from the start line to the buoy anchored near the Port of San Pedro, and the second section taking in the entire course.
Maverta/Defcon Seguridad, an ORC A-class vessel, put a lot of daylight between themselves and their rivals, giving them no chance, despite the increasing intensity. In a little over an hour and twenty minutes they were rounding the San Pedro buoy, followed twelve minutes later by Pulpo Negro, with this vessel being the first ORC B rating. The first ORC Promotion-class vessel was Colomba V.
The order in real-time rankings remained practically the same throughout the entire race; and during their arrival in Torrevieja Bay, where the finish line was located, Maverta widened the gap with their rivals, thereby consolidating their victory in the overall standings.
The award ceremony is planned to take place at 9 pm at the facilities of Club Náutico Marina Internacional, presided over by the local Authorities and members of the Managing Board.
This regatta has proved to be a good litmus test since, from 14th to 16th July, Club Náutico Marina Internacional plans to organise the Spanish championship Mediterranean Zone, Copa de España Zona Mediterráneo, i.e. the 8th Club Náutico Marina Internacional trophy, which is a regatta on the Spanish National Calendar, with the leading fleet of the Mediterranean coast – from Murcia and Valencia – expected to put in a full appearance.
