“From 8 to 14 October the Club Náutico Marina Internacional organised the 3rd Intercontinental Dragon Boat Festival of Spain Jan Collins Memorial”
Organised by the CNMI, the Intercontinental Dragon Boat Festival of Torrevieja has become one of the European events with the greatest impact.
The 2018 edition brought together a total of 380-400 paddlers from the USA, CANADA, SOUTH AFRICA, ENGLAND, FRANCE, NEWA ZEALAND, as well as national sportsmen and women from the Torrevieja, Valencia, Badalona, San Pedro del Pinatar, San Javier, Murcia, Cartagena, Los Nietos, Almería, Seville, Pontevedra, Asturias, and Cantabria teams.
The 2018 edition of the Intercontinental Festival has become the only event in Europe with teams participating from 4 continents in addition to the teams representing Europe and more than 200 sportsmen from Spanish teams, making the Torrevieja competition once again the best in the country in the season.
With each edition the Intercontinental Festival of Torrevieja, based at the Club Náutico Marina Internacional, is becoming a world reference in Dragon Boat sport and above all for the BCS (Breast Cancer Survivor) section, bringing together increasingly more women from all over the world who have survived this disease.
As of the 2018 edition, the International Festival will officially add “Jan Collins Memorial” to its name in honour of Janet Collins, an English BCS paddler who for the last 5 years helped the Spanish Dragon Boat Association to develop BCS teams throughout the country and who saw the Intercontinental Festival as a reference event in southern Europe for BCS team competition.”
